Something for the weekend #3

May 21, 2009

Instead of videos, I’m going to treat you to some of my favorite tunes on mp3, seen as it’s the bank holiday weekend and all. First up, a tune that I discovered on one of my favorite essential mixes of years gone past by DJ Heather. It’s what music is all about really, poking your emotions and changing your mood, and this does that. Boompty and as smiley as fuck.

Cricco Castelli-Life Is Changing

The below track was a hefty one hit wonder from the late 90’s, but it’s still a great tune. The video always made me want to move to the nearest seaside resort and ride mopeds. But that would involve moving to Ayr, so fuck that.

Len-Steal My Sunshine

Sunglasses At Night, how apt in this day of sunglasses in clubs and all that shite.  This is a remake of a Corey Hart hit from 1983, although Tiga & Zyntherius(the flying Finn, Jori Hulkkonen)reworked it to electroclash(remember that?)standards and got rid of a bit of the cheesy chorus, and the result is a bit of an anthem which signalled Tiga’s foray into music.

Blog darlings, Chromeo, have made some decent music over the years, but it’s hard to say their recent stuff has been half as good as the tune below. Funky, good guitar riffs, quality lyrics and a very very snazzy use of a drum machine(dunno which one)makes this tune. Also reminds me of Paris a little bit as I bumped all the way to Paris and back with this on the mini-disc(a what?). Good times.

Chromeo-Needy Girl

The last tune is by Chicago’s finest, Lupe Fiasco. Lupe talks about flying all over the world making wads of money but he pines for his Mrs. Quite a feelgood record I think. Summery beat and as ever, Lupe’s dynamite flow make this track a subtle classic.
